Trial Technology

It would seem these days that, with the proper technology, a case could go from start to finish without ever generating a piece of paper. What little paper exists is scanned in, annotated, organized, searched, retrieved and stored electronically, along with e-mail, word processing documents, spreadsheets, and all other digital data. Trial preparation includes electronic discovery, online depositions, and real-time transcription. Briefs, motions, filings, and documents are all delivered electronically. Timelines and evidence are generated graphically, shown to jurors simultaneously on plasma monitors and a 6-foot screen. Documents are displayed the same way, with a skilled attorney and trial technologist annotating, highlighting, and emphasizing on-screen. Witnesses are called in from all over the globe, testifying over live satellite links. Graphical enhanced recreations of events educate and enliven jurors.

Elliott & Smith Law Firm employ a full time trial technologist, Frans Schimper, who has a degree from the University of Arkansas in Information Technology and Quantitative Analysis, with a emphasis in multimedia development. At Elliott & Smith Law Firm, we use technology in the Courtroom so that we can effectively present our clients claims to the jury in a way that makes the case easy to understand and follow. Elliott & Smith Law Firm also use technology in preparing a case for litigation and/or settlement. This starts with simple digital photographs of the vehicles, video taped witness statements, video footage of the accident site, and the preparation of settlement brochures. This information can then be utilized during a mediation or the actual trial. If the case ends up in litigation, we use technology to video tape depositions, to scan medical bills and medical records for use at trial, to present reenactments of the wreck or of a specific medical procedure, and to show the jury the seriousness of our clients injuries with the use of medical illustrations. It is our belief that by properly using technology, our clients will benefit from larger settlements and larger jury verdicts.
